Bruthen Uniting Early Learning

At 12 Seehusen Avenue, this local centre offers childcare, long day care, three-year-old kindergarten, mixed sessional kindergarten for three- and four-year-olds, four-year-old kindergarten and Pre-Prep. Inclusive support is described for children with physical and intellectual disabilities. Families can submit an expression of interest or call 1800 183 103. Additional free kindergarten hours are available for enrolled four-year-olds from 2026.

East Gippsland Shire Council Mobile Library

Borrow books or use a computer when the mobile library visits Bruthen. The July–December 2026 West Route timetable lists a Main Street stop on Wednesdays from 11.15 am to 12.30 pm, plus a Bruthen Kindergarten stop on Thursdays from 9 am to 9.30 am. The kindergarten stop is not visited during school holidays, so check the Council timetable before setting out.

East Gippsland Shire Council — Bruthen Recreation Reserve

For a straightforward local play stop, the Council-managed reserve at 6 Murphys Lane has play equipment and toilets. Adults should supervise children and check conditions before visiting.

Playgroup Victoria — PlayConnect+

PlayConnect+ runs supported playgroups for children aged 0–6 with disability or developmental concerns, together with their families, carers and siblings. No diagnosis is required. Qualified professionals facilitate sessions across metropolitan, regional and remote Victoria, with online playgroups also available. School-holiday sessions are described for children aged 5–8; families can register interest and ask about suitable local or online options.

Uniting Vic.Tas — Communities for Children East Gippsland

This regional program supports children aged 0–18 and their parents or families living in East Gippsland Shire who are experiencing complex life circumstances. Areas of support include family health and wellbeing, parenting, early learning and transitions to school. Self-referrals and referrals from others are accepted through Uniting’s Bairnsdale Community Services team.

headspace Bairnsdale

Young people aged 12–25 can access free help with mental health, physical and sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, and work or study. They may self-refer by phone, email or drop-in, while a family member, friend, health worker or educator can help arrange an appointment. Telehealth mental health consultations may suit rural young people living near the centre who cannot travel in. headspace Bairnsdale is not an emergency service.

The Orange Door — Bairnsdale

This free service is an entry point for adults, children and young people experiencing or who have experienced family violence, as well as families needing extra support with the care of children. No referral is required. Contact is available by phone, email or in person during business hours at 148 Main Street, Bairnsdale.
